Summary: This genomic region represents the 5' regulatory region of the DPP4 (dipeptidyl peptidase 4) gene, which encodes a functional receptor for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and it may play a similar role for other acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus). A subregion can drive androgen-stimulated expression of a reporter gene in COV434 granulosa cells. It also includes a binding site for the glucocorticoid receptor, which mediates glucocorticoid-responsive gene expression in macrophage-like THP-1 cells. Another subregion was also validated as an enhancer by the ChIP-STARR-seq massively parallel reporter assay in naive human embryonic stem cells, where it associates with the NANOG transcription factor.
