Summary
This region is centromere-distal to the major histocompatibility complex, class II, DP alpha 1 (HLA-DPA1) gene on the p arm of chromosome 6. This region has been identified as a meiotic recombination hotspot by molecular assays, sperm typing assays and linkage disequilibrium studies. Features with different co-ordinates are given to indicate the meiotic hotspot, differing in the method used to map the recombination event. Meiotic hotspot activity can vary widely amongst individuals and can be influenced by both the nucleotide sequence at the meiotic recombination hotspot and the specific alleles present at the PR domain 9 (PRDM9) locus.
