Summary
This locus represents a conserved genomic element that can function as an enhancer. It can activate a Hsp68 promoter coupled to a LacZ reporter gene in transgenic mice. A subregion that includes the rs12740374 SNP was validated as a minor allele cis-regulatory element for the PSRC1 (proline and serine rich coiled-coil 1) and SORT1 (sortilin 1) genes by CRISPR-SNP perturbation in primary hepatocytes.
