Summary
This element represents a locus control region (LCR) that can confer T cell-specific, copy number-dependent, position-independent expression on the CD2 gene in transgenic mice. It is located immediately downstream of the 3' terminal exon of the CD2 gene, and is characterized by three DNase I hypersensitive sites and a core enhancer region. This LCR and the enhancer sub-region have been used to drive T cell-specific expression of several heterologous genes in various vector systems, including retroviral and lentiviral vectors. A truncated version of the LCR has been shown to be heterochromatin-sensitive, and has thus been useful for studying chromatin-related processes, such as triplet-repeat-associated position effect variegation. RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
