RFC1, also termed activator 1 140 kDa subunit, or A1 140 kDa subunit, or activator 1 large subunit, or activator 1 subunit 1, or replication factor C 140 kDa subunit, or RF-C 140 kDa subunit, or RFC140, is the large subunit of replication factor C (RFC), which is a heteropentameric protein essential for DNA replication and repair. RFC1 can bind single- or double-stranded DNA. It could play a role in DNA transcription regulation as well as DNA replication and/or repair. The Trp-X-X-X-Cys/Ser signature motif of the BRCT family is not conserved in this family.
