Glossary

Eigenvalues

A special set of scales associated with a linear system of equations (e.g. matrix equation).

Maximum likelihood estimator

A method of estimating the parameters of a probability distribution by maximising a likelihood function so that under the assumed statistical model the observed data are most probable.

Multilevel modelling

Statistical models of parameters that vary at more than one level.

Oblique rotation

A transformational system used in factor analysis when two or more factors (latent variables) are correlated.

One-tailed binomial test

An exact test of statistical significance.
