Types of N-glycans. N-Glycans at Asn-X-Ser/Thr sequons in eukaryote glycoproteins are of three general types: oligomannose, complex, and hybrid. Each N-glycan contains the common core Man3GlcNAc2Asn. Complex N-glycans can have up to five branches initiated by GlcNAc and elongated with Galβ1-4GlcNAc (LacNAc) repeats (see Figure 9.6).
