Drug Levels and Effects
Summary of Use during Lactation
Iodine I-125 is implanted temporarily in a sealed container (plaque) to treat localized tumors. During the time that the plaque is in place, the mother and infant must be separated to avoid radiation exposure to the infant. The mother’s milk is not affected, and it can be pumped and fed to the infant at a later time.

Effects on Lactation and Breastmilk
A mother nursing an 11-month-old infant was treated with an iodine I-125 plaque for uveal melanoma. The plaque was in place for 2 days during which time she was separated from her infant, but pumped milk for later use. Breastfeeding was resumed after plaque removal.[1]
