Schematic overview of k-fold cross-validation. The dataset is randomly split into k stratified folds. Each fold is used as a test set once, while the other folds are temporarily combined to form a training set for model generation. Performance metrics on the test set are calculated and stored, and the process is repeated for the number of folds that have been generated
