TABLE 19.2Indications for intra-abdominal pressure monitoring as defined by the world consensus definitions

Post operative abdominal surgery with a distended abdomen
Abdominal trauma
Mechanically ventilated patients with other organ dysfunction
Patient with a distended abdomen and signs or symptoms consistent with ACS and including oliguria, hypoxia, hypotension, unexplained acidosis, mesenteric ischaemia, elevated intracranial pressure
Patients with an open abdomen or abdominal packing after temporary closure
Patients who have undergone massive fluid resuscitation, secondary to fluid loss due to leaky capillaries
