Summary:
The purpose of this program is to demonstrate the surgical treatment for various types of ptosis. The program achieves this objective through the use of case studies which include pictures of the preoperative problem and the postoperative results. The program begins with the presentation of a detailed outline for the indications for these various types of ptosis operations to aid in the preoperative evaluation. During the program, four operations for ptosis are demonstrated. The first operation demonstrates a levator resection through a skin incision on an individual with an eight milliliter excursion. The second operation demonstrates levator tucking through a skin incision and the third a levator frontalis sling in a child with bilateral epicanthus transversus. Diagrams are also used to demonstrate the use of the levator to form a sling to the frontalis muscle. The fourth operation uses a fascia lata frontalis sling to correct a bilateral ptosis with no levator action. The program also includes the technique for obtaining the autogenous fascia lata from the thigh.
