Rhodosporidium toruloides (formerly known as Rhodotorula glutinis or Rhodotorula gracilis), a nonpathogenic and pink-colored basidiomycetous fungus can accumulate lipids over 70% of its dry cell weight (DCW). This yeast were often used for transformation of renewable resources to microbial oils, which could be used as foods, animal feeds, and feedstocks for chemicals or biofuels. The parent of haploid Rhodosporidium toruloides NP11 was diploid Y4, which was derived from R. toruloides CGMCC 2.1389, identical to CBS 6016.
