The study aims to describe the microbial community of a freshwater reservoir using high throughput sequencing. The reservoir is called Tous and is located in the region of Valencia, Spain. Water was collected and filtered through a series of polycarbonate filters, a 20 micron prefilter, 5 micron (for large cells and eukaryotes) and 0.22 (for planktonic microbes). DNA was extracted from the 0.22 micron filter (small, planktonic fraction) filter to obtain genomic DNA of the microbial community. The genome of Synechococcus sp. Tous was reconstructed through the metagenomic assembled contigs of Tous 12m and 25m depth.
