The horn shark (Heterodontus francisci) is a species of bullhead shark in the family Heterodontidae. It is endemic to the coastal waters off the western coast of North America, from California to the Gulf of California (from Wikipedia entry). This sample of a female individual found in Long Beach, California, was procured by Ralph Appy, and coordinated by Gavin Naylor and Kady Lyons to generate a high-quality reference genome for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the Vertebrate Genomes Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, led by Erich D. Jarvis, Giulio Formenti, and Jennifer Balacco.
