The New Zealand spotty wrasse is a protogynous hermaphrodite that undergoes socially-cued female-to-male sex change as a usual part of the lifecycle. It is endemic to coastal waters of New Zealand. This sample was provided by the Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and University of Otago, and used to generate a chromosomal level reference assembly as part of the G10K-VGP Project. The project was funded by grants to Professor Neil Gemmell from the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund and the University of Otago.
