The New Caledonian crow (Corvus moneduloides) is endemic to the island of New Caledonia in the South Pacific. The species is renowned for its habit of manufacturing tools from plant materials, to extract prey from deadwood and vegetation. The sample was collected as part of a long-term field study led by Christian Rutz, from the University of St Andrews, and used to generate a chromosomal level reference assembly as part of the G10K-VGP Project.
