The Balaenoptera musculus is an important marine mammal species for various kinds of research. The sample was collected off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA by Jeff K. Jacobsen, Susanne Meyer, Li-Fang Chu, and Jessica Antosiewicz-Bourget. The samples were provided by Morgridge Institute for Research and used to produce a reference assembly as part of the G10K-VGP Project.
