Methanosarcina mazei Go1 wild type was transformed with plasmid pWM321 (Metcalf et al. 1997). A single positive colony was isolated, named Methanosarcina mazei mutant 203b (Mm Mut 203b), and used as an empty vector control during a long-term evolution experiment.
