Dutch Harbor is a nexus of fisheries and shipping activity in the Aleutian Islands and as such is acutely susceptible to the impacts of climate change and introductions of marine non-native species. To recognize and understand ecosystem change in response to these forces, it is critical to establish replicable measures of coastal ecosystem health. The objectives of this project were to assemble and build upon the benthic and fouling assemblage knowledge base, quantify change in marine fouling assemblages relative to surveys completed 15 years prior, engage in outreach with local community to cultivate local knowledge and skills for long-term monitoring capacity.
