Babesia bovis strain T2Bo
A combined sequencing approach consisting of a clone by clone and whole genome shotgun method (8x coverage) was used to generate the complete genome sequence of B. bovis T2Bo strain. There are four chromosomes in this strain (other B. bovis strains have been found to present only three chromosomes in their haploid genomes). The gap closure phase of this sequencing project has resulted in 13 contigs.
This Whole Genome Shotgun project has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the project accession AAXT00000000.
Chromosomes 2 and 3 are complete. Chromosome 4 is in three pieces that could not be assembled definitively, but the chromosome is covered. Chromosome 1 has a large gap full of repetitive sequences, and the small contigs are within the gap. The order and orientation of the pieces of chromosome 1 and chromosome 4 are not known.
Additionally, the complete apicoplast genome sequence is available in GenBank under accession AAXT01000007, and the complete mitochondrial genome sequence under GenBank accession EU075182 .
The genome sequencing project is a collaboration between Washington State University, the Agricultural Research Service - Animal Disease Research Unit and The Institute for Genomic Research.
