Historically, Hawaiian fishes have been given scientific names of species that live broadly throughout the Indo-Pacific. Endemic Hawaiian populations have been recognized at the species or subspecies level. DNA barcode data reveal wide divergences between Hawaiian and other Indo-Pacific fish populations. This BioProject contains mtCOI barcodes from a number of fish collected in Kaneohe Bay, the MarineGEO site in Hawaii, all of which have voucher specimens in the Fish Division, NMNH. This DNA barcode records were generated with support from the federally-funded Smithsonian Institution DNA Barcode Network. Collections were supported by the Schultz and Axelrod funds of the Division of Fishes, NMNH.
