Currently, genomic and genetic resources available to understand or combat the damage caused by powdery mildews are lacking and phylogenies are largely unresolved. There is a critical need to expand the scope of research to additional PM pathosystems and describe the molecular and physical mechanisms of plant-microbe interactions that directly and negatively impact U.S. agriculture, particularly the ornamental industry.
