Diet has been shown to influence epigenetic key players, such as DNA methylation, which can regulate the gene expression potential in both parents and offspring. A diet enriched in n-6 PUFA and deficient in n-3 (low dietary n-3/n-6 PUFA ratio), has been associated with the promotion of pathogenesis of many diseases in humans and other mammals. In this study, we used zebrafish to investigate the transgenerational impact of high levels of arachidonic acid, an important n-6 PUFA. Parental fish that were fed either low or high arachidonic acid levels, and their progeny fed only low levels of arachidonic acid were analysed.
