Intestinal bacteria regulate mammalian physiology, but many are still unknown.
More...Intestinal bacteria regulate mammalian physiology, but many are still unknown. This is especially true for bacteria in the mouse intestine, even though mouse models are extensively used in translational medical research. Moreover, reference strains of mouse gut bacteria are to date not easily available. These are major limitations for investigation of the intestinal ecosystem, its interaction with diet and host and its impact on health. The present study describes new cultivable gut bacterial diversity, including members of novel species, genera and family.
