Shiga toxin (Stx) is the key virulence factor of Stx-producing Escherichia coli (STEC). The stx gene is encoded by lambdoid phages, and Stx-encoding phages (Stx phages) are integrated into the host chromosome. In this project, we collected the Stx phage genome sequences to analyze the diversification of Stx phages in STEC lineages.
