The goal is to make a large-scale phylogenetic analysis of Protacanthopterygii, an early-branching euteleost lineage, whose circumscription and membership have changed at least 13 changes since its proposal 57 years ago. This study dealt with both comprehensive species coverage and genome-wide genetic sampling.
