The tetse fly Glossina pallidipes is a vector of pathogenic trypanosomes which cause trypanosomiasis in humans and animals in Africa. In particular it is a major vector of Trypanosome brucei brucei, the causative agent of nagana or African Animal Trypanosomiasis. Glossina pallipides is also a minor vector of Trypanosome brucei rhodesiense, the causative agent of an acute form of Human African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness).
