In this work, we establish a method and timeframe for high-quality RNA extraction from both anaerobic fungal monocultures of Anaeromyces robustus and fungal-methanogen co-cultures of A. robustus and Methanobacterium bryantii to determine whether conclusions regarding upregulation of genes such as carbohydrate active enzymes (CAZymes) in fungal-methanogen co-culture hold true throughout the fungal exponential growth phase.
