Chickens are the most abundant and widespread domestic animal across the world.
More...Chickens are the most abundant and widespread domestic animal across the world. Paradoxically, its domestic history is highly multifaceted and debated. We sequenced and analyzed genomes comprising domestic chickens, Red junglefowls, Grey junglefowl, Ceylon junglefowl, and Green junglefowl from broad geographical ranges spanning Eurasia. By analyzing these genomes, we try to explore the origin, dispersal and evolutionary history of domestic chickens, as well as genetic basis underlying their domestication and local adaptation.
