Liver is a highly dynamic metabolic organ that plays a pivotal role in whole-body energy homeostasis. Gynostemma Pentaphyllum (GP) as a typical edible and medicinal plant, was officially classified as a functional food by the Chinese Ministry of Public Health on March 5, 2002. As a highly promising natural product, GP has attracted significant attention for its multiple effective biological activities, including immune activity modulation, anti-tumor activity, liver protection, and neuroprotection. Gut microbiota is a key regulator of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. GP impact on the intestinal microbiota remains to be elucidated. The anti-inflammation role of Gynostemma Pentaphyllum extract (GPE) plays in liver diseases remains unclear.
Here, we report the anti-inflammation effect of GPE in NASH mice. Meanwhile, GPE can enriched the abundance of potentially beneficial bacteria such as Akkerrmansia and decrease the abundance of opportunistic pathogens such as Klebsiella. Our result suggested that the therapeutic potential of GPE for NASH mice may be related to the improvement of intestinal microenvironment and the reduction of liver inflammation. Less...
