Haplochromis sauvagei sensu Greenwood
Greenwood (1957) revised the species Haplochromis sauvagei (Pfeffer, 1896) and designated a neotype (BMNH 1956.9.17.1) believing the holotype (ZMB 22.222) to have been lost in Berlin during World War II. The holotype was eventually rediscovered, and Seegers (2008) demonstrated that the two specimens were from different species. The original (rediscovered) holotype of Haplochromis sauvagei was actually the same as the undescribed informal species Haplochromis sp. 'rockribensis'. Seegers then described Haplochromis sauvagi sensu Greenwood as a new species, Haplochromis fischeri Seegers, 2008. As a consequence, most or all of the sequences submitted to GenBank before 2008 as Haplochromis sauvagei should actually be identified as Haplochromis fischeri.
