Paecilomyces sect. Paecilomyces and Paecilomyces sect. Isarioidea
Paecilomyces is a polyphyletic genus. The type species, P. variotii, is associated with Paecilomyces sect. Paecilomyces (Eurotiales). Species of Paecilomyces sect. Paecilomyces are known to be saprophytic. Species in Paecilomyces sect. Isarioidea (Hypocreales) are typified by P. farinosus and entomopathogenic in nature (see Samson 1974).
