White sturgeon epivirus was previously named white sturgeon iridovirus and classified as an iridovirus. New phylogenetic and serological evidence suggest this large DNA virus is not an iridovirus and currently unassigned to any known virus family (pers. com. Kwak,K.T. 2006).
