Sabanejewia balcanica complex
A. Perdices (personal communication) has suggested that Sabanejewia aurata subspecies from the Danube (balcanica, bulgarica, radnensis and vallachia) and Greece (doiranica and thrakica) should all be treated equally as species. However, these taxa are genetically very similar and clustered in most cases (except thrakica) with Sabanejewia balcanica.
