fatty acid 2-hydroxylase is an integral membrane involved in processes such as cholesterol biosynthesis or biosynthesis of plant cuticular wax. It catalyzes the hydroxylation of free fatty acids at the C-2 position to produce 2-hydroxy fatty acids, which are building blocks of sphingolipids and glycosphingolipids, for example, and contains an N-terminal cytochrome b5-like heme/steroid binding domain
