This model does not describe any subunit of the mitochondrial complex I (for which the subunit composition is very different), nor NADH dehydrogenases that are not coupled to ion transport. The Enzyme Commission designation 1.6.5.3, for NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone), is applied broadly, perhaps unfortunately, even if the quinone is menaquinone (Thermus, Mycobacterium) or plastoquinone (chloroplast).
