Protein Classification

glycosyltransferase family 29 protein( domain architecture ID 10466376)

glycosyltransferase family 29 protein catalyzes the transfer of sugar moieties from activated donor molecules to specific acceptor molecules, forming glycosidic bonds; uses a nucleotide monophosphosugar as the donor instead of a nucleotide diphosphosugar

alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 4; ST8Sia4 is a polysialyltransferase that can synthesize polysialic acid on neural cell adhesion molecules (NCAMs). ST8Sia4 catalyzes longer polysialicacid formation of NCAMs than ST8Sia2. ST8Sia family members are alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferases that catalyze an alpha-2,8-linkage between sialic acid and the terminal sialic acid residues of glycochains, by transfering sialic acid from CMP-Sia and they belong to the glycosyltransferase family 29 (GT29).

alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 3; Alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 3 synthesizes polysialic acid and has been shown to autopolysialylate. ST8Sia3 utilizes the Siaalpha2,3Galbeta1,4GlcNAc structure on N-glycans of glycoproteins and glycolipids as acceptor substrates. ST8Sia family members are alpha-N-acetylneuraminidealpha-2,8-sialyltransferases that catalyze an alpha-2,8-linkage between sialic acidand the terminal sialic acid residues of glycochains, by transfering sialic acidfrom CMP-Sia and they belong to glycosyltransferase family 29 (GT29).

alpha-N-acetylneuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 1, 5 and 6; ST8 Sia family members are alpha-N-acetylneuraminidealpha-2,8-sialyltransferases that catalyze an alpha-2,8-linkage between sialic acid and the terminal sialic acid residues of glycochains, by transfering sialic acid from CMP-Sia. The family is subdivided into 3 classes of enzymes, depending on theircatalytic activiy, the mono-STs (ST8Sia1, ST8Sia5 and ST8Sia6), the oligo-ST(ST8Sia3), and the poly-STs (ST8Sia2 and ST8Sia4). The ST8Sia family belongs to the glycosyltransferase family 29 (GT29).

beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 1; ST3GAL family transfer sialic acid from CMP-Sia to the terminal galactose residues of glycochains through an 2,3-linkage. ST3GAL1 preferentially utilizes the Galbeta1,3GalNAc on O-glycans of glycoproteins (core1 O-glycans) as an acceptor substrate. Members of this family belong to glycosyltransferase family29 (GT29).
