Public Note for CCDS 3440.1
The coding region has been updated to shorten the N-terminus to one that is more supported by data in PMID:1146333. This publication shows that a non-AUG translation initiation codon is used exclusively. The UUG start codon annotated in the update is conserved as an AUG in rat and mouse. An upstream in-frame putative AUG start codon exists in the transcript, which would result in a protein that is 87 aa longer at the N-terminus, but the studies in PMID:1146333 do not support usage of this. In addition, a signal peptide is predicted only if the downstream start codon is used, and the same publication performed N-terminal sequencing of the mature protein to confirm the signal peptide cleavage.
