Black Esophagus, White Esophagus, or Shades of Gray?

Semin Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2017 Summer;29(2):260-261. doi: 10.1053/j.semtcvs.2017.03.003. Epub 2017 Mar 28.

Abstract

Esophageal stricture following an ischemic event may present acutely or with delayed symptoms of dysphagia. The findings reported by Kim et al provide additional evidence that the phenomenon of "black" and "white" esophagus falls within a spectrum of disease that requires case-specific consideration to effectively manage these patients.

Keywords: esophagectomy; esophagus; ischemia; necrosis; stricture.
