Vulnerability by sex to seasonal affective disorder

Percept Mot Skills. 1998 Dec;87(3 Pt 1):1120-2. doi: 10.2466/pms.1998.87.3.1120.

Abstract

This study pooled the demographic data reported in 40 studies on seasonal affective disorder to identify the ratio of men to women with this disorder. Among the 1129 subjects recruited for these 40 studies, women out-numbered men. A sex difference in biochemical responses to climatic variables was postulated as one of the possible explanations of the observed women's vulnerability to seasonal affective disorder.
