Sex dependent transcriptomic and reproductive response of the diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) to cold stress

(Submitter supplied) Temperature has fundamental influences on fitness and distribution of insects. There have been very few studies on effects of mild cold conditions on insects. We found Plutella xylostella had reduced fitness and females produced few viable eggs when reared at 10°C, a temperature at which they can complete development. Male moths reared at 10°C were not able to fertilize eggs, but the eggs produced by female moths reared at this temperature were viable and could be fertilisied by males moths reared at a warmer temperature (25°C). more...

Midgut transcriptome response to a Cry toxin in the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae)

(Submitter supplied) We investigate the functional complexity of the Plutella xylostella transcriptome in defending against a Bt toxin using Illumina sequencing technology. Over 2,900 differentially expressed unigenes were obtained in resistant P. xylostella comparison to their susceptible counterpart.

Seabuckthorn carpenter moth (Eogystia hippophaecolus) Transcriptome or Gene expression

(Submitter supplied) By comparing transcriptome profiles for differential gene expression, genes and pathways probably involved in insect cold hardinesswere identified. This dataset provides a global transcriptome data and differential transcriptome comparisons in E. hippophaecolus under cold stress. This may facilitate future genomic studies aimed at improving our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of insects to low temperatures.

New insight into a host-pathogen interaction unveiled by transcriptomics response of the global insect pest Plutella xylostella to a fungal pathogen

(Submitter supplied) A genomic insight into how an insect pest responds to the infection of a fungal insect pathogen, such as Beauveria bassiana, is critical for alternative strategy of insect pest contol based on fungal insecticides but has not been well probed. Here we constructed three pairs of digital expression libraries (transcriptomes) of Plutella xylostella (global lepidopteran pest) larvae 24, 36 and 48 hours post treatment of infection (hptI) and control (hptC) to reveal the host response to B. more...

The miRNA profile of P. xylostella in response to chlorantraniliprole exposure

(Submitter supplied) miRNAs play important roles in various biological processes through post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. We previously identified 203 mature miRNAs in Diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella. This species has developed extremely high levels of resistance to chlorantraniliprole and other class of insecticides in the field. In this study, we examined the miRNA profile of P. xylostella in response to chlorantraniliprole exposure. more...

RNA-seq of two early-maturing rapeseed varieties treated with different cold stress

(Submitter supplied) Oil rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is a typical winter biennial plant, with high cold tolerance during vegetative stage. In recent years, more and more early-maturing rapeseed varieties were planted across China. Unfortunately, the early-maturing rapeseed varieties with low cold tolerance have higher risk of freeze injury in cold winter and spring. Little is known about the molecular mechanisms for coping with different low-temperature stress conditions in rapeseed. more...
