Show details
Figure 9 compares the logarithmic means and standard deviations drawn as modified bell curves between PCA and tPSA in each of eight studies. For each study on the left hand side (left sided column) are two curves plotted against a horizontal axis ranging from 1 to 1000 ng/ml. In all studies dotted lines represent biopsy positive patients and solid lines represent biopsy negative patients. On the right hand side (right column) the same results are seen with the vertical axis ranging from 1 to 100 ng/ml. Dotted lines always fall to the right of the solid line.

Figure 9Distributions of PCA3 and tPSA in men with positive and negative prostate biopsies from four studies that reported such information in the same cohort

PCA3 = prostate cancer antigen 3 gene; tPSA = total prostate specific antigen

Note: The logarithmic means and pooled standard deviations were obtained from Table 11. The solid line indicates the distribution for those with a negative biopsy, while the dashed line represents the distribution in those with a positive biopsy. For each study (indicated by the first author), these distributions were obtained in the same group of men. The figures are sorted by the relative performance of PCA3 over tPSA (from left to right, top to bottom).
