(= nomen novum, = replacement name, = avowed substitute) refers to a new name based on a legitimate or illegitimate, previously published name, which is its replaced synonym and which, when legitimate, does not provide the final species epithet, name, or stem of the replacement name.
• 2) A synonym that was replaced by a replacement name or nomen novum.
• 3) 'Nom. illeg.' (= nomen illegitimum, = illegitimate name) refers to a validly published name that is not in accordance with the particular rules of its relevant Code of Nomenclature.
