Ficus ampelas
For spelling of the species epithet, we follow Corner (1959), who notes: "The name was published as F. ampelos, but this is clearly a misprint for Burman wrote F. ampelas unmistakably on both sheets, and it is etymologically wrong." The epithet was derived from a local name for the plant, signifyiing rough, in reference to the sandpapery h airs covering it, and not from 'ampelos' ('climbing' in Greek).
